Peter Hermann Talks Upcoming Anniversary Plans With Wife Mariska Hargitay (Exclusive

By

The lovebirds will be celebrating 14 years of marriage next month, and while speaking with ET at a fan screening for Younger in New York City on Monday, the 50-year-old actor teased that he's planning something special for his wife.
"That's where I keep secrets," Hermann, who portrays Charles Brooks on the comedy-drama series, told ET's Keltie Knight. "Yeah, good things planned."
Hermann and Hargitay, 54, first met on the set of Law & Order: SVU, and tied the knot in Santa Barbara, California, on August 28, 2004. The two share three kids together -- sons August, 12, and Andrew, 6, and daughter Amaya, 7.
Later in the interview, Hermann also opened up about his co-star, Hilary Duff, who is expecting her second child, a baby girl, and her first with boyfriend Matthew Koma. He admitted everyone on set kept their lips sealed so that the 30-year-old actress could reveal the exciting news herself.
"The thing about the show is about secrets and so, we keep a good secret," he explained. "[We may] have the grandest baby shower planned ever and you just don't know about it yet. I don't know about it yet because she kept a secret."
Younger airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TV Land. In the meantime, watch the video below to hear Hermann and Hargitay share the secrets to their lasting marriage in another exclusive sit-down with ET from earlier this year.

'Law & Order: SVU' Cast Members Reunite in New Season 20 Photo

With the milestone 20th season set to air this fall, Law & Order: SVU star, Mariska Hargitay took to social media on Wednesday to share a snapshot of herself with co-stars, Ice-T and Peter Scanavino.

Hargitay, 54, posted the selfie of the “3 amigos” on set of the NBC series, captioning the image simply with hashtags including the likes of, “back at it,” “with my guys,” “getting the band back together” and “An Officer and Her Gentlemen” — playing on the title of the 1982 movie with Richard Gere and Debra Winger.

Much to the excitement of fans, filming for the series began earlier this week when Hargitay posted a selfie on Tuesday with series creator and television legend Dick Wolf, alongside a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming season.

Hargitay, who has played series lead Olivia Benson since the first season, took to Twitter on Tuesday to share with her nearly 1 million followers, the first table read for season 20 of the long-running NBC crime procedural. Similarly to the selfie shared on Wednesday with her co-stars Ice-T and Scanavino, Hargitay posted the images with a collection of hashtags for captions.

The photos come on the heels of Hargitay’s announcement this past June of how she would stay on indefinitely for the NBC series well beyond season 21.

“The joke with [then-showrunner] Warren Leight and I was season 16 was good, and we said season 17, we're going to phone it in,” Hargitay said at a Paley Center panel honoring the NBC series. “That was our schtick on set, because we were so exhausted. And then season 17, we killed it. And then season 18 ... we had a wobbly year. But season 19, I was like, ‘I’m sorry, did anyone see the show?’ [New showrunner Michael] Chernuchin, every single episode, he outdoes himself.”

She added that the leadership demonstrated by Chernuchin during the resurgence of stories in the show’s history is what motivates her to stay involved with the long running series.

“This f—ing guy is such a genius, and he listened to everything I said,” Hargitay said. “Our writers are so brilliant, and they usually have their own ideas. But he said, ‘This is my idea, but what do you want to do?’ I said, ‘I want to go into what it is like for a woman, like myself, who has three children, and that [difficult work-life balance].’ I have three children. Let me tell you something: It costs me every day. Do I quit the show, do I take my kid to school? What do I do? Either way I lose. And only working women understand that.”

Hargitay announced at the panel that she will be starring on SVU for the “long haul” and that she was “grateful” for the role.

Season 20 will see Law & Order: SVU move to Thursday nights, with the two-hour premiere airing Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET; then moving to the 10 p.m. ET slot the following week, Oct. 4.

Mariska Hargitay celebrated the beginning of production for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 20 with a new selfie with series creator and television legend Dick Wolf.
The actress, who has played series lead Olivia Benson since the first season, took to Twitter to share with her more than 840,000 followers, the first table read for the upcoming season of the long-running NBC crime procedural.

Through a collection of hashtags, Hargitay announced production for the season premiere of SVU was officially underway, sharing the photo from the first table read, along with a selfie with Wolf.

The tweet was met with overwhelming excitement from fans, eager to see what comes next in the lives of Olivia Benson and the rest of the Special Victims Unit.

"So excited for the best show on television to be back filming it's 20th season. Congratulations to you and everyone involved with this incredible show. Hope it never ends," one user commented.
"I can't wait for Season 20!!" Another one wrote.

"Best damn show on TV for 2 decades! Welcome back!" A third one responded.
The photo comes a few weeks after Hargitay revealed she would stay on the NBC series for its 21st season, and beyond.

"The joke with [then-showrunner] Warren Leight and I was season 16 was good, and we said season 17, we're going to phone it in," Hargitay said at a Paley Center panel honoring SVU in June. "That was our schtick on set, because we were so exhausted. And then season 17, we killed it. And then season 18 ... we had a wobbly year. But season 19, I was like, 'I'm sorry, did anyone see the show?' [New showrunner Michael] Chernuchin, every single episode, he outdoes himself."

Chernuchin's leadership during this new chapter in the series' history is what motivates Hargitay to stay involved with SVU.

"This f—ing guy is such a genius, and he listened to everything I said," Hargitay said. "Our writers are so brilliant, and they usually have their own ideas. But he said, 'This is my idea, but what do you want to do?' I said, 'I want to go into what it is like for a woman, like myself, who has three children, and that [difficult work-life balance].' I have three children. Let me tell you something: It costs me every day. Do I quit the show, do I take my kid to school? What do I do? Either way I lose. And only working women understand that."

Hargitay added at the time, though, that she's in on SVU for the "long haul."

"I said, 'You keep writing like this, I'll stay for 25 years.' Why would I leave? I'm so grateful," she said. The feeling seems to be mutual, as NBC Entertainment president Robert Greenblatt said they're looking to keep the show moving as long as Hargitay stays on.

Season 20 of the beloved NBC series will move to a new night and timeslot this fall, starting with a two-hour season premiere Thursday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET. The series will move to its regular time slot the following week on October 4, with a new episode starting at 10 p.m. ET.

Law & Order: SVU season 20: See Mariska Hargitay, cast at table read!

From: cartermatt.com

Law & Order: SVU season 20 is poised to deliver its biggest season yet, and there is no better time for it! After all, 20 is a milestone number and we’re gearing up for a milestone year. The series is tying Law & Order proper and Gunsmoke as the longest-running primetime drama show ever, and we really do like to think that there is a whole lot of great stuff still to come!

Recently, Mariska Hargitay and the rest of the cast all took part for a table read for (presumably) the first episode. That’s exciting in its own right, but even more so when you consider the appearance from Dick Wolf! The franchise guru was present in order to see everyone kick off the show in fine fashion, and we think that is probably a nice shot in the arm to everyone to get things going.

As for what the story will be for season 20, we don’t exactly think all that much will change — after all, it really doesn’t need to. You’ll get a chance to see some more captivating, thought-provoking drama in the vein of the first 19 seasons. What’s different is the nature of each case, some of the individuals involved, and the messages that are there at the very end.

Hopefully, by the end of this season we’ll come to know and care about these characters even more — beyond just that, we’re also hoping that there will be a chance at a season 21! It’s never too early to start the campaign for that, right?

Law & Order: SVU is airing on NBC this fall, but remember that there is a new timeslot for it — Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, otherwise known as the former timeslot of Chicago PD.

Mariska Hargitay's road to success in Hollywood was not as simple as just following in the footsteps of her famous parents. The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star recently opened up about the life lessons she learned after dealing with family tragedies.

In 1967, when Hargitay was only 3 years old, she was in a car crash that killed her mother, actress Jayne Mansfield. She was raised by her father, Mickey Hargitay, and his third wife, Ellen. After Mansfield's death, Mickey helped her learn how to deal with the pain.

"The message I got from my father was that life is hard, but you just don’t quit," Hargitay told Closer Weekly of her father, who died in 2006.
Mickey was also instrumental in helping Hargitay launch her own acting career.

"I’d get an audition and he’d say, 'How hard are you going to workfor it?' So I pushed myself even when I didn’t feel like pushing myself. I acted confident even when I wasn’t. And slowly… I became more confident," Hargitay told Closer Weekly. She soon realized if you "kick fear to the side the payoff is huge."

The 54-year-old Hargitay began her career with the 1984 horror movie Ghoulies and found her first lead TV role in the short-lived Downtown. After more lead roles in shows that did not last very long, she landed a recurring role on ER. Since 1999, she has played Olivia Benson on SVU, which will start its 20th season in the fall. In 2005, she won a Golden Globe and won an Emmy in 2006.

"I’ve learned to lean in to the sharp edges. There has been a lot of darkness. But on the other side, things can be so bright," Hargitay told Closer Weekly. "What have I learned from Olivia? Having hope, you know? Stamina. Fierce protection. Never giving up no matter what."

Hargitay has frequently talked about Mansfield, who she still thinks about, more than 50 years after her death.

In an interview with PEOPLE in March, Hargitay said all she has to do is look in the mirror and realizes her mother is still with her.

“My mother was this amazing, beautiful, glamorous sex symbol — but people didn’t know that she played the violin and had a 160 IQ and had five kids and loved dogs. She was just so ahead of her time. She was an inspiration, she had this appetite for life, and I think I share that with her," Hargitay said.

"Losing my mother at such an early age is the scar of my soul," she told Redbook in 2009. "But I feel like it ultimately made me into the person I am today. I understand the journey of life. I had to go through what I did to be here."

Hargitay has a family of her own with actor Peter Hermann. The two have a 12-year-old son, August Miklos Friedrich Hermann. They also adopted a daughter, Amaya Josephine, and a son, Andrew Nicholas, in 2011.
